Soulforce comes to SAU!!! [16 Apr 2007|06:21pm]

my_warm_blood
Soulforce is coming here!

This Saturday, April 21, the Soulforce Equality Ride will be stopping here, at Spring Arbor University.

SAU is not allowing Soulforce on campus, therefore we will be meeting at the pavillion behind McDonald's & the police station, right across M-60.

The riders plan to arrive around 12:30 and will stay for the afternoon and early evening.

This is a big deal they are stopping!! We were not on their originally planned tour. A number of people wrote to them asking them to come and they have added us to their route on their way to Calvin and Cornerstone!

What is Soulforce?

Their mission statement: "The purpose of Soulforce is freedom for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people from religious and political oppression through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance."

What is the Equality Ride?
Homophobia is globally pervasive, and no community or school escapes its reach. The Equality Ride route has less to do with specific priority and everything to do with the urgency of this conversation. In 2006, during the inaugural Equality Ride, participants engaged nineteen schools. This year, the journey continues with fifty-seven young adults going to thirty-two Christian colleges and universities. Two buses are taking the group on two distinct paths around the country in creative pursuit of social justice. In doing so, they are empowered to change countless lives. Love liberates the oppressed, redeems the lost, and resurrects the spirit.

Why should you come?
Because they want to talk to you! As fellow Christians, they hold the same Biblical ideals and principles. Come have a discussion, ask tough
questions and do it all in the spirit of love! No one will be attacked or laughed at.

No matter what your view of homosexuality is, you are welcome to come!

Last Minute Venue Change [17 Nov 2006|01:52pm]

action_model
Sooo...

Due to some recent development, there had to be a last minute venue change for the awesome show that was to take place at the new Jackson venue the JMAC.

The show has moved to a venue on the campus of Spring Arbor University (near Jackson) called The Prop Shop. The address for the university is 106 E. Main St., Spring Arbor, MI 49283. Just past the school is a small building that looks like it was previously a gas station of sorts. There is a banner on it that says Prop Shop.

Also, due to this super last minute change, both Zoos of Berlin and Child Bite unfortunately had to drop off the bill. Lone Wolf and Cub and Either/Or are still playing, and Segernomics and Gentlemen... are probably filling in those spaces.

The show is still going to be a great one full of great music. All are still encouraged to come, hear good tunes and have a good time.

Doors are still at 7, the cost is still $3/$5.

Please call me if you have any questions: (517)231-9653.

Sastergoodment... [16 Jun 2006|03:40pm]

pc2995
Sastergoodment wants you!
P. Landis Blaire and I (Phil C.) have created a LJ community! Called, sastergoodment, we hope to use the community to keep in touch as both of us are soon leaving SAU in search of what we call... the mercurial lives of statesmen and artists alike. On the community we are working to keep up an ongoing practice of throwing out ideas and discussion on art, as well as random items of inspiration and ridiculousness. We will also be posting daily pictures of things as an ongoing art project to inspire and entertain (a conglomeration we have copyrighted as "inspirtainment.") So, feel free to join the community and take part in our musings on arts and farts and crafts. There will also be some inspirtaining and creative/fun games, and activities we will be throwing into play sometime soon that will surely be worth your time and energy! After all, being creative and thinking about things and new and different ways is like a muscle that needs to be exercised. The more you practice, the stronger and better you will become at being creative.

BIKE FOR SALE! [07 May 2006|09:41am]

catchyphrase

Green vintage Schwinn "Breeze."  It's in decent condition, the tires need air, but they were in great condition last summer and didn't have any leaks. The right brake doesn't work (but can be fixed with the proper skill, which i dont have), but the left works well.  And overall, it looks pretty hot and is a great deal :-D
Please let me know if your interested, or spread the word.  I really would not like to have to take this home with me next week, please take it!
If anything, you could probably get a good price off of it on ebay.  ;)

Investigative Article [30 Apr 2006|03:55pm]

idareyoutomove
I'm writing an investigative article on the SAU rule that no full time traditional student is able to live off campus unless they are 1) 22  years old 2) Living with a parent, legal guardian, pastor or faculty/staff personnel.  3) Married or of independent status 4) Involved in a student teaching semester.  The reasoning for this rule, as listed in the student handbook,  is that SAU was established as a residential university - meaning that the living/learning environment  and interpersonal relationships developed while living on campus assist academic aims and aceivements of the university. If students are discovered to be living off campus without meeting any of the above criteria, they are fined $100 and must immediately move on campus. (Handbook, Residential Life pg 9)

I want to know what you think.    Is this fair, is it not? How does or has it affected you? Would you live off campus if you could? Would you stay? What are the pros and cons of this rule? Should it be eliminated, changed or kept the same?   Feel free to comment anonymously, just leave your age and what year you are in school if possible.

I know you all have opinions. So share them and help me gather information for my article. It will not be published in the Crusader. This is personal research.
